The Evolution of The Justice System: Londoners as Lawyers, Judges (and Jury)

Talk
£5
16 September 2026
5.30pm

How did lawyers, judges, and jurors come to shape justice in England?

Patrick Voss traces the development of the legal system from Magna Carta to modern courtrooms. He explores key trials and reforms and shows how ordinary Londoners became central to the idea of fair judgement.

The talk links historic changes to the principles that still guide justice today. Patrick Voss is an award-winning Blue Badge Guide in London. As well as well as tours for those keen to explore more of the city, he is passionate about brining history to life and showing not just what happened in the past, but how this still resonates today.
