People of Providence by Tony Parker
Book Group

Originally published in 1983, Parker interviewed the residents of 'an ordinary housing estate' in South London over an eighteen-month period, in doing so creating a unique record of a community at a certain point in time. Elegiac, moving and often surprising, Parker demonstrates the power of his oral history technique and the richness of everyday lives.
The London Archives Book Group is an online discussion group which meets monthly and welcomes all - even if you haven’t read the book (although spoilers may arise!)
We have a broad remit, covering fiction and non-fiction for all periods in London history. Each session includes an online presentation highlighting original archive material to enrich the discussion.
