Mapping the Blitz

Talk

Come to this illustrated to talk to hear about the detailed survey of the destruction caused by aerial bombing during the Second World War.

The London County Council Bomb damage maps are one of the centre pieces of our London in The Second World War Exhibition. They are coloured with a combination of dyes and crayon they record damage from minor to total destruction using a coloured key. V1 and V2 damage sites are also identified.

The 110 sheets that cover the old County of London are the most detailed and complete survey of destruction caused by the aerial bombardment.

This illustrated talk complements our current exhibition London in the Second World War, on display from 24 February 2025 until 19 February 2026.
