Introducing: Spotlight on The Africa Centre

Hear about our Spotlight on The Africa Centre display that will be on show from 9 February to 2 July 2026.

Make the most of our new Tuesday evening opening hours by joining us for a short event about our Spotlight on The Africa Centre display. The event includes a ten-minute introduction to the items on show by a member of The London Archives team, followed by Q&A and time for independent browsing.

Our small but striking display celebrates the rich history and cultural impact of The Africa Centre, founded in 1961, and looks at how it Centre evolved from a post-independence diplomatic hub to a dynamic space for diasporic creativity, resistance, and celebration in the heart of London. Discover vibrant posters, photographs, and ephemera of the Centre that encompassed a lecture hall, art gallery, bookshop, restaurant, nightclub, and even its own radio programme.
