Conservation Ethics - Theory and Reality
Join fellow professionals for a dynamic Conservation Ethics workshop exploring the complex decisions that shape conservation practice.
The day begins with a thought-provoking morning lecture and discussion at The London Archives (TLA), before moving into a hands-on object assessment session using collection material in the TLA studio. The afternoon session takes place at the Wellcome Collection with further case studies and critical debate.
Designed for conservators across specialisms, this event offers a rare opportunity to test judgement, share perspectives, and reflect on ethical challenges in a collaborative, practice-focused environment.
What to expect?
A full day workshop from 10am to 4.30pm with The London Archives and Wellcome Collection. This event takes place in-person only. Tickets for only the morning lecture are also available.
Morning Lecture
- 9.30am: Registration opens at The London Archives. Tea, coffee and light refreshments available.
- 10 - 11.30am: Morning Lecture: 'Conservation Ethics: Theory and Reality' (followed by Q&A)
- 11.30am: Comfort break.
Full Workshop continues
- 11.40am – 12.30pm: Practical session in TLA’s Conservation Studio exploring case studies from the TLA collection
- 12.30 – 1pm: TLA Tour
- 1 - 2pm: Lunch break and travel to Wellcome Collection. Please note that lunch and travel are not provided. (Participants can travel via the tube from Farringdon or on local buses. The address is: The Wellcome Collection, 183 Euston Road, London, NW1 2BE)
- 2 - 4.30pm: Session at Wellcome Collection, including further practical case studies and critical debate
