About our Bayeux Tapestry Replica

  • One of the treasures of our collections and not usually on display.
  • Over 200 years old, this was the first complete colour copy of the Bayeux Tapestry made available to the public. It shows the tapestry as it looked before its 19th-century repairs and recreates scenes lost to damage.
  • It is 20.25 metres long and features coloured etching by artist Charles Stothard, whose drawings were engraved by James Basire. Stothard took the prints back to Bayeux to hand-colour them from the original.

Please note: As tickets are free, we release more than the available capacity to account for no-shows. Entry is first-come, first-served and we recommend arriving early to avoid disappointment. If you can't be accommodated on your booked time slot, we will endeavour to accommodate you on the next available slot.
