City of London Heritage Gallery Exhibition: America and London

In this display we commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and celebrate some of the links between America and London.

Highlights include:

Two letters dated 1775 sent to the City of London acknowledging the links between in City and America prior to the Declaration of Independence in 1776. One letter is from the General Committee of Association of the City and County of New York, the second from the Congress in Philadelphia.

A silk bookmark commemorating the assassination on 14 April 1865 of Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States from 1861 to 1865.

The Roll of Fame, which records the bestowal of the Honorary Freedom of the City of London, open at the entry for General of the Army Dwight Eisenhower, Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force. The honour was given as a mark of appreciation for his part in the defeat of German Forces during the Second World War.

Please note: The City Heritage Gallery is located within Guildhall Art Gallery. We recommend that you book a free general admission ticket to gain entry to the Heritage Gallery.
